If you realised the mistake, either you counter-signed for the amendment, or you cancel the cheque and re-issue a new one. And if no one find out and just present the cheque to bank and was rejected by the bank. This can be real frustrating as you will need to pay bank charges for dishonoured cheque and re-issue another new cheque to your payee.
With the birth of cheque writer, it changes the way cheques are being issued and human-error can be reduced to the minimal. With it, you are not exempted to spell the amount in words, all you need is to emboss the amount on the cheque.
